Q. What does "Karate" mean?
A. "Kara-Te" literally means "empty hand."
The practice of Karate, or "kara-te do" is
following the "way of the empty hand."

Q. Is Karate" dangerous?
A. Only if you do it wrong.  If you are
properly stretched and use the safety
equipment when sparring, injuries in Karate
are very rare.  Compared to team sports like
football and baseball, the actual injuries from
controlled martial arts are very infrequent.

Q. Is my child old enough?
A. We accept children as young as four years.
However, each child is different, and some
children are just not ready at that age.  We
encourage you to bring your child by for a
FREE class or two before making the decision
to start Karate lessons.

Q. Do you compete in tournaments?
one each year right here in Richmond).  Our more adventurous students
also compete in the A.O.K. Tournament circuit.

Q. Is there a religious aspect to the martial arts that you teach?
A. No.  Although the martial arts were originally developed by Budhist
Monks, any religious undertones that may have been associated with the
arts has vanished from our practice.

Q. How do I know that I (or my child) will fit in?
A. Try a class - you will see.  Acceptance is a fundamental of the martial
arts.  Our students learn that every fighter (and therefore every person)
has individual strengths and weaknesses.  We are not better or worse
than one another - only different and unique.
